The Sony Xperia Z is one of the most powerful Android smartphones released by Sony with waterproofing, dust resistance, BRAVIA Engine and hardcore technical prowess. But the Xperia Z has hidden tips inside waiting to be unveiled by owners and new users.
1. Battery Saving Modes: STAMINA and Low Battery
The excellent display screen and user interface amaze many especially with the BRAVIA Engine, but these things are battery drainers without any option to use backup battery whenever you needed it. Sony instead designed the Xperia Z with three battery saving modes usable depending on several situations and can be customised according to you.
a.      STAMINA mode: Activate the STAMINA mode to greatly improve battery life as it disables applications from grabbing data connection and syncing whenever the screen is off. SMS, calls, music player and alarms retain their activities normally as well as downloads and uploads which are currently active.
b.      Low Battery mode: In extreme cases, you can set this power saver to automatically turn off auto-syncing and wireless connectivity, reduce brightness and limit screen time out to save up more battery.
c.       Location-based Wi-Fi: If active, the Xperia Z only connects to an active Wi-Fi connection listed on your device. Even if you forget to turn off the Wi-Fi connectivity, the Xperia Z will automatically turn it off for you.
2. Sony PC Companion Tool
Sony may have the best PC suite tool for mobile phones which can be used to sync files, backup contacts, update firmware and more. The Sony PC Companion can also be used to manage media files such as editing audio information and album art. You can download the Sony PC Companion from the Sony Web site or go to "Settings > Xperia > USB connectivity > Install PC Companion" and then connect the device to the computer via a USB cable.
3. Backup Data on your Sony Xperia Z
If you need to backup data on your Xperia Z, simply use the built-in app on your device. Go to "Settings > Backup and restore > Back up my data." The data would be stored include photos, music, eBooks, applications, digital magazines and personal settings.
4. Editing Documents
Sony Xperia Z comes with Mobisoft Office 6 which you can use to edit documents from the Microsoft Office Enterprise. This includes word documents, excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.
5. NFC for Content Transfer
Use the NFC feature to push contents of your Sony Xperia Z to your TV screen via mirroring. Go to "Settings > Xperia > Mirroring" and then make the device search for NFC capable devices. Most TV screens supporting this feature may need to use "Settings > Throw feature" instead.
6. Transfer Data
The Sony Xperia Z can make transferring of data between the internal storage and SD card easily without requiring a computer. Go to "Settings > Storage" and, at the bottom of the option, you will see the "transfer data from Internal storage to SD card." In addition, the Xperia will warn you to do this if ever the internal storage goes low.
7. Camera Photos Online
Dropbox application for Android allows the Sony Xperia Z to upload images via clouding storage and creates a separate Camera Uploads folder whenever the device is connected to Wi-Fi. Once the phone has created backup, you can delete the originals if you desire to.
8. Tether via NFC Xperia Link
Xperia Link is an exclusive pre-installed feature among the latest Xperia devices which can be used to tether data connection using NFC technology. Activate the Xperia Link to start the camera and scan the barcode of the other Xperia device. After the scanning has been completed, the tethering begins with the NFC connectivity.
9. How to Tether Data aside from NFC
NFC is still new for tethering but you can also use Bluetooth and USB to tether your Xperia Z. Go to "Settings > Tethering & Portable Hotspot." Choose which connectivity you're going to use.
10. Get the Right Internet Settings

Sometimes, network carriers in other territories have specific Internet/MMS settings for devices. If your Sony Xperia Z doesn't have default APN settings for mobile data connection, connect to Wi-Fi and then select "Settings > Xperia > Internet settings" and let the device download the right APN settings for you.
